CALLING ALL
HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS!

The No Excuses Initiative is very excited to announce its 5th annual book scholarship! This scholarship will be awarded to two (2) high school students and is opened to all high school seniors that meet the requirements listed below. This is in remembrance of the late Mr. Edward Hunter Jr., a high school graduate of Central High schoo and a middle school teacher at A. Maceo Walker Middle School and Treadwell Middle School in Memphis, TN. As a middle school teacher, he taught more than just physical science. Mr. Hunter always expounded on the fundamentals avoiding excuses to achieve your goals and enjoy life to the fullest. All applications are to be submitted and completed online by March 29th, 2024 Please be reminded, there will be no mailed or emailed applications. How to Apply?
Criteria
 
  • 2024 graduating high school senior

  • Expectations of attending a 2 or 4 year accredited college or university

  • Demonstrate leadership

  • Community involved activities.

  • Passion for education

  • Positive, role-model characteristics.

Requirements
 
  • Must include a high school resume

  • Acceptance letter of college that the student plans to attend

  • Two letters of recommendation — one must be from a high school teacher, with a letterhead, and signed

    • ​The recommender must submit the recommendations via email stating the student’s name utilizing the recommender’s official email (or teacher’s email), .pdf format, and signed

  • Confirmation letter of completed FAFSA application matching the school’s offer letter

  • 1,000 typed, word essay explaining the significance of what excuses mean to you, how to avoid excuses and the impact of mentorship.

  • High School Transcript

  • PDF Files only

  • No mailed or paper applications!
